Lloyd was born Christopher Allen Lloyd, the youngest of seven children, was born on October 22, 1938 in Stamford, Connecticut to Ruth and Samuel Lloyd. His father was a lawyer while his mother, the daughter of one of the founders of the Texaco Oil Company, Lewis Henry Lapham, was a singer.
Christopher Lloyd followed his mother’s steps to pursue a career in the arts as he began acting from a very young age. As a teenager, he completed a theater apprenticeship in New York and Massachusetts before taking acting classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater, among other places. By 1961, Lloyd was poised to make his theatrical debut, but it wasn’t until 1969 before he was able to appear in his first Broadway show. Some of the Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in which he appeared included Macbeth, The Seagull, King Lear, Happy Ending, The Whore , and The Hunt , among many others.
Lloyd continued to act on and off Broadway until making his film debut in 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He then caught his big break when he was cast in the ABC sitcom Taxi (1978-1983), where he played the award-winning role of Reverend Jim Ignatowski. Lloyd also appeared in major films such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Back to the Future trilogy and The Addams Family (1991).
Throughout the 2000s, Christopher Lloyd continued to reappear in various films and series as he plunged back into acting, and began lending his voice to video game characters, most of which were based on his Back to the Future role.
