WOTHAPPEN reports that Julian Assange, born Julian Paul Assange is an Australian publisher, journalist, internet activist, computer programmer and editor of FactsLeaks. One of the greatest hackers of his time, Julian made himself the enemy of several governments. Find out how and why he grew into what we know him for today and whether he’s dead or not.

Bio of Julian Assange

The computer guru was born on July 3, 1971 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia to Christine Ann Hawkins and John Shipton. After his birth, his parents separated and when he was only one year old, his mother married an actor, Richard Brett Assange. Julian took Richard as his father and consequently decided to go by his surname, Assange.

His mother’s marriage to Richard later ended in divorce and she became involved with Leif Meynell (aka Leif Hamilton). The relationship produced a son before separating in 1982. From his birth until he was fourteen, Julian lived in thirty-seven cities in Australia before finally settling with his mother and brother. Although not much is known about his father, it has been established that his mother was constantly running away from a former lover who had turned into a stalker.

The small cement bungalow they stayed in was located in a quiet neighborhood that gave Julian the serenity he needed to learn how to use his first computer. It wasn’t long before he became obsessed with computers. According to the landlady, who lived next door to the single-story property, the young man didn’t go out much, spending most of his time on his Commodore computer and rarely leaving his bedroom. The time he spent on the computer was not known to anyone. He learned how to hack into other computers.

At the age of 18, Julian met a girl named Teresa and they started dating. Shortly thereafter, he left his family home and moved into a cottage with the 16-year-old girl. She became pregnant and gave birth to their son Daniel Assange (now a software designer) in 1989. Even when his girlfriend was pregnant, he spent long hours every day on the computer, perfecting his hacking art when the world started using the web more. Nor was the birth of their son a strong reason to pull the immature hacker away from his computer screen.

In 1987, Julian Assange started under the hacking name of Mendax and formed a hacking group with two others called International Subversives. He hacked into the Pentagon and other US Department of Defense facilities including MILNET (military network), the US Navy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He also hacked his country’s Overseas Telecommunications Commission, Citibank, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, Panasonic, Xerox, and various Australian and US academic and research institutes.

In October 1991, Assange’s home was seized by the police. He was caught with a £350 Amiga 500 computer and over twelve CDs containing website access codes. Police also found details of hundreds of passwords he had stolen for networks around the world. As a result, in 1994 he was charged with thirty-one counts of computer hacking. For his baby mama, this was the last straw that broke the camel’s back – she ran away with her son. A nine-year custody battle ensued over their son. The court case ended in 1999 in favor of Daniel’s mother.

The case against Julian Assange was closed five years after the police raid in December 1996. He pleaded guilty to 25 charges (the other six were dropped) and was fined $2,100 and released on a good behavior bond. According to the judge, his light sentence was due to the fact that no malicious intent or mercenary intent was perceived, and also to his troubled childhood.

Due to his nomadic childhood, Julian attended many schools and was also homeschooled at some point. So he was already distinguished as a loner at a young age. He enrolled at Central Queensland University in 1994, studying programming, mathematics and physics. From 2003 to 2006 he started a degree program at the University of Melbourne, but left the program in 2006 to help build FactsLeaks with others.

Julian Assange gained widespread recognition in 2010 after FactsLeaks released a series of classified/unclassified but sensitive military and diplomatic documents provided by Chelsea Manning, a former US Army soldier. Leaked materials released included the security killings video, the Afghanistan war logs, the Iraq war logs, and Cablegate. In the wake of the leaks, the US government launched a criminal investigation into FactsLeaks and asked allied nations for help.

Meanwhile, prior to the leak, Julian Assange had a sexual assault and rape incident in Sweden. However, when questioned three months earlier, he denied the allegations. Because of the case, he feared that the Swedish government would extradite him to the United States because of his apparent role in the release of highly confidential American documents.

Sweden issued an international arrest warrant for Assange in November 2010 and he handed himself over to British police on December 7, 2010. After ten days in detention, he was released on bail. After an unproductive challenge to the extradition process, Julian bailed and fled. The government of Ecuador granted him asylum in August 2012 after determining that he met the requirements of the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol relating to the status of refugees. He has since been based at the Ecuadorian embassy in London and has not left the heavily patrolled confines of the building since entering almost six years ago. Despite the allegations against him, Julian Assange became an Ecuadorian citizen on December 12, 2017.

From what we have gathered, Julian Assange is very much alive in the security of the Embassy of Ecuador in London. His British arrest warrant is still valid, while the Swedish government has stopped its (sexual) assault against him. However, more and more revelations are being made about who Julian really is and what his intentions are.

There have been reports by authoritative investigators by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, US intelligence agencies and the international media that Jullian Assange was a key player in the alleged Russian undermining of the 2016 US presidential election. He is accused of helping eventual winner Donald Trump by undermining Americans’ belief in their democracy. With this, many people are beginning to wonder who this originally good-natured Julian Assange really is. Despite this, as mentioned earlier, he is still alive as you read.

What is his net worth?

The FactsLeaks founder and America’s wanted man has a net worth of approximately $400,000. His life has been filled with unanswered questions and professionally we cannot identify any legal matter that we have noted him as consistent on over the years.
